A. H. Riise was a Danish pharmacist who resettled in the Danish West Indies—now the US Virgin Islands. Other islands had begun distilling Rum, but none in Danish-controlled areas, so good ‘ol Mr. Riise did just that and procured a warrant to supply Rum to the Danish navy. This naturally gave rise (pardon the pun) to their first core product, Danish Navy Rum. 
 
Today, A. H. Riise has changed hands, but it is still located in St. Croix where they acquire fresh molasses distillate from the famous Cruzan Distillery on Saint Thomas to age and blend in the creation of a full range of Rums. 
 
AH Riise XO King Haakon Royal Reserve Rum — that’s a LONG name. But it means something. King Haakon VII of Norway paid a visit to the Riise family pharmacy and distillery on Saint Croix when he was in the Danish Navy. The two men struck up a friendship that would last for years. This Rum was created in his honor, following the original recipe for the king’s favorite. Although the term “XO” has no “official” designation for Rum, A. H. Riise follows the Cognac model, meaning that this Rum has been aged for no less than six years.
